Tree Planting…

A very big
THANK YOU
to everyone who came along
to help plant the new saplings
which were given to us by
The Woodland Trust.

Despite the grey weather,
and the fact it was Easter weekend,
it was a great turn-out.
So good to see so many
local people getting involved.

Another big THANK YOU
to the anonymous donor
who paid for the tree protectors
and canes.

This little copse is adjacent
to Ghost Wood and will
enhance the local area
by adding some colour,
and it will encourage
birds and wildlife.

DSCN0016

It will also provide
a shady area for families
to enjoy picnics,
while still allowing
plenty of green space
for children to run around on.

The project has the backing of
Colchester Borough Council
and local Counsellors.

Turning a Space into a Place…

A very big
THANK YOU
to everyone who came along to our
Planting Day

Picture 006

The morning began

with blue and yellow plastic bags

filled with bulbs

dotted about the place…

Picture 008

Then the volunteers set about digging holes
and planting crocuses, snowdrops and daffodils.

Volunteers worked hard with the planting
before having a well-earned
tea break (with biscuits!)

Picture 013

Local Counsellors Tim Young & Dave Harris
came fully prepared with strimmers and spades.

Bulbs and wild flowers were planted
around trees and along the edge of the slopes.

Flat As A Pancake…

20150919_102750It’s now mid-September and the council has cut down all of the long grasses

on Greenstead Slopes.

The result means everything now looks very bare, and very flat.

20150919_103309

20150919_10335820150919_103753The woods look quite pretty in the dappled light,

and there’s an abundance of webs wherever you go.

20150919_104403

20150919_105303

There’s now not much in the way of colour, other than green,

but you can occasionally spot a yellow dandelion or a pale pink bramble.20150919_105402

Not long now before our Picnic and Planting Day

on October 10th…
